1.9 dohc saturn redline9/7/2023 ![]() ![]() the tps itself is physically different and the throttle body was changed to reflect that so you can't just swap it. the tps is the same between '98-02, however if you wanted to go with an older motor or put a newer motor in an older car you can either swap the whole throttle body or make an adapter cable to plug the oval-shaped 3rd gen tps connector into a 1st/2nd gen round connector tps.they all can be swapped between fuel rails and this isn't a concern putting a '98 motor in a '99. make sure you use the ones that match your gen pcm. 1st vs 2nd-3rd gen injectors have different impedances.just leave the sensor (it's under the upper radiator hose connection) and don't worry about plugging it in. '91-95 also have a 2nd coolant temp sensor port for the gauge, but you don't need to worry about that swapping into a newer car.'91-94 cars have a vacuum egr, so to install the linear egr used on '95-onwards you will have to grind out the mounting tabs on the egr valve to match the studs for the vacuum one, and use a gasket for the vacuum one as well.it's best to avoid those for "drop-in" swaps unless it's a '91-92 car. the engine is otherwise compatible but that crank will only work properly with a '91-92 pcm or aftermarket engine management. '91-92 cars use a crank that has the cps reluctor ring notches cut 10 degrees off from all later years.as you can imagine, there is no 3rd gen (under the hood) pcm tuned for the flat tappet head, and while the engine will run "ok" it will not run optimally with a mismatched pcm.Īny '93-02 dohc will work but there are changes that will need to be made depending on the year you swap in. that makes the early '99 pcm (which is under the dash like all 1st-2nd gens) particularly unique because it is the only 2nd gen pcm tuned for the roller-rocker head. people often miss it but the pcm is tuned differently for the two different head designs. if not, you have an early '99 and can easily get any '96-99 engine and swap in the corresponding pcm. is there a silver module mounted to the battery tray? if so, you have a late '99 and are better off getting a '99-02 engine (or swapping the head). Will a 1998 engine work and if not what are the differences? Just threw a rod out the side and need to know what years of dohc engine will work with this car? I have a 1999 saturn sl2 with the 1.9 dohc engine that ![]()
